Texting10DLC registration

Text customers from your business number. We do the registration that gets it delivered.

US carriers block business texts from numbers that are not registered for 10DLC. We file your registration, turn texting on, and charge $150 once to do it. Texting itself is quoted on your volume.

§The rule

Every business that texts from a normal phone number has to register.

10DLC stands for "10-digit long code", which is just an ordinary local phone number. The carriers built a registry for business texting from those numbers, and they now block or filter texts from numbers that are not in it.

Often you get no error at all. The customer just never receives the appointment reminder.

The brand. Who your business is, checked against your tax records.

The campaign. What you text about, and how customers agreed to receive it.

Both have to be approved before your number can text.

Volume does not matter. Ten texts a month needs the same registration as ten thousand.

§The sequence

You answer a few questions. We file the rest.

  1. Your business details.

We tell you exactly what the carriers ask for, using the list below, and you send it once.

  2. Brand registration.

We file your business with the registry. The carriers check that the name and tax ID match.

  3. Campaign registration.

We describe what you will text, write sample messages with you that match what you will actually send, and document how customers opt in and how they stop.

  4. Texting turned on.

Once you are approved, we turn texting on for your numbers in 3CX, set up NexText if you will send mass messages, route texts to the right people or queue, and send a test with you.

We will not print an approval timeline. The carriers control it, and it varies by business. We tell you where your registration stands, and if the carriers send it back, we fix what they flagged and resubmit. The resubmission is covered by the same $150.

§Where you text

One customer at a time, or all of them at once.

One to one, in 3CX

Texts arrive in the 3CX app and web client, next to your calls. Your staff answer a customer from the business number, and the conversation stays with the business when someone is out.

Many at once, in NexText

NexText is our web app for sending one message to a list: appointment reminders, closing notices, updates to customers who signed up for them. It runs in a browser, and you do not need 3CX to use it.

Text from any of your numbers. Once your numbers are with us, each one can send.

§Checklist

What the carriers ask for.

Legal business name, exactly as it appears on your IRS EIN letter (the CP-575). If you trade under a different name, the link between the two has to be obvious.

EIN, your federal tax ID.

Business address, a physical one, not a PO box.

A website that matches the business name. If you do not have one, a business Facebook or Instagram page is usually accepted.

A privacy policy saying customers’ mobile numbers and opt-in information will not be shared or sold to third parties for marketing.

A support email and phone number that belong to the business. A personal Gmail or Yahoo address gets rejected.

How customers opt in, and the words they see. A form checkbox, a paper sign-up, or texting a keyword. The wording names your business and says how often you will text. It includes "Msg & data rates may apply", "Reply STOP to opt out" and "Reply HELP for help", plus links to your terms and privacy policy.

What you will send: appointment reminders, job or order updates, two-way customer service, or marketing.

Why registrations get sent back

The name does not match the EIN letter, or a trade name has no clear link to it.

The website is down, describes a different business, or has no privacy policy covering mobile numbers.

The support email is a personal address.

The opt-in wording is missing the frequency, the rates notice, STOP or HELP.

The sample messages do not name the business, or do not match the use you described.

We check all of these before we file. We also write your sign-up confirmation, HELP and STOP replies with you, because the carriers review those too.

§Price

Registration is $150. Texting is quoted on your volume.

The $150 is paid once. It covers our registration service and the carriers’ one-time filing fees: filing your brand and campaign, and setting texting up for your numbers.

The carriers also charge a monthly fee for each registered campaign. That is billed separately, and it is listed on your quote.

What you pay to send depends on how much you send. We quote it with your numbers rather than print a rate that would not match your bill.

Texting is not part of the $30 per simultaneous call. It is listed separately, like numbers and phones.

§Questions

Before you ask.

Do I need this if I only text a few customers?

Yes. The rule is about texting from a business number, not about how much you send.

Can I text from my main number?

Yes. Once your numbers are with us, you can text from any of them, your main number included.

What about toll-free numbers?

We offer toll-free texting too. Toll-free numbers go through their own carrier verification instead of 10DLC. Tell us which numbers, and we will set it up.

Can I send marketing texts?

Yes, through NexText, if customers opted in to marketing specifically and it is registered as its own use. Texting lists people did not sign up for is the quickest way to get a campaign shut down.

Do I need 3CX to use NexText?

No. NexText is a web app and works on its own. If you are on 3CX with us, one-to-one texting is there as well.

Can a sole proprietor without an EIN register?

No. We verify every business before we file, following the FCC’s know-your-customer guidance, and that starts with a federal tax ID.

Where do the texts show up?

One-to-one texts show up in the 3CX app and web client, next to your calls, so a reply can go to whoever is handling that customer. Mass messages go out from NexText.

Tell us which numbers you want to text from.

We will check them, tell you what the carriers will ask for, and quote texting on the volume you expect to send.
